Marcus Petronius Mamertinus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marcus Petronius Mamertinus was a Roman knight living in the 2nd century . He exercised the prefecture in the imperial province of Egypt from 133 to 137 as governor under the emperor Hadrian . An edict has survived from his term of office , which mandated the reciprocal issuance of receipts for tax payments or services in order to ensure legal traceability in the case law in fiscal matters.

Under Antoninus Pius he was then appointed Praetorian prefect because of his services ; he held this office from 139 to at least 143 years.

Ultimately, his career crowned his admission to the nobility by being appointed suffect consul by the emperor in 150 . A military diploma dated August 1, 150, proves that he was 150 together with Marcus Cassius Apollinaris suffect consul; the two presumably took office on July 1 of that year.

Marcus Petronius Mamertinus was friends with Marcus Cornelius Fronto , the teacher of the sons Mark Aurel and Lucius Verus , who were adopted by Antoninus .
