Marfan sign

The Marfan's sign is a typical symptom that can occur in the context of rickets caused by a vitamin D deficiency and the associated hypocalcemia. The swellings that occur from the third month of life on the long tubular bones in the area of ​​the meta- and epiphysis can be felt as humps on the wrists and ankles. They consist of osteoid deposited subperiosteally (under the periosteum ) . The palpable epiphyseal swelling on the tibial ankle in rickets is the term Marf sign in the narrower sense. It is considered an earlier and more reliable sign than the so-called rachitic rosary .

The Marfan symbol is named after Antoine Marfan .
