Rachitic rosary

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rachitic rosary is the name given to swellings on the cartilage - bone border of the ribs and along both sides of the breastbone . This deformation of the chest is palpable and also visible in an advanced stage. The rachitic rosary is a symptom of pronounced rickets , a permanent deficiency in vitamin D , which leads to mineralization disorders of the bone matrix of the long bones . A slightly earlier sign of rickets is Marfan's sign .
