Margaret Ann Boden (born November 26, 1936 in London ) is a British cognitive scientist and author of books on artificial intelligence and its connection with philosophy and psychology (creativity) to art .

Boden attended the City of London School for Girls and studied medicine and science and philosophy at Cambridge University (Newnham College). She received her PhD in social psychology from Harvard University in 1968. Boden was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Birmingham from 1959 and at the University of Sussex from 1965 , where she became Professor of Philosophy and Psychology in 1980 and Founding Dean of the School of Cognitive Science and Computing Science (COGS) in 1987. She has been research professor for cognitive science there since 1997.

From 1962 to 1964 she was a Harkness Fellow at Harvard.

She is a fellow of the AAAI and the British Academy , a member of the Academia Europaea and OBE . From 1993 to 1996 she chaired the Council of the Royal Institution . She received the ACM-AAAI Allen Newell Award for 2017 and the Barwise Award for 2019.
