Margaretha von Zedtwitz

Margaretha von Zedtwitz († 1525 ) was the last abbess of the Sonnefeld monastery until 1525 .

Margaretha came from the von Zedtwitz family . She was the last abbess of the monastery, in which many nuns had adopted the Lutheran faith during the Reformation . In 1524 they succeeded in getting a Lutheran preacher against the will of the abbess. After the death, the councilors of the Saxon elector appointed administrators for the monastery property. The monastery survived the peasant war undamaged. The remaining nuns had the choice to choose a worldly life or to stay in the monastery. Five out of 14 nuns left the monastery, the last remaining nun died in 1572.
