The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Polish Kościół Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny ) is located in Zülz (Polish Biała ) in the Opole Voivodeship . The church is located northwest of the ring in the old town at ul. 1-go maja .

history

A Gothic hall church with a two-bay choir and a two-bay nave with a west tower stood on the site of the current building as early as the 14th century. This building was destroyed in a fire in 1544. After the fire, the church was expanded and rebuilt. A new choir with crypt, the south aisle with side choir and the three-aisled nave were added. The church tower received an octagonal tower with a baroque dome.

In the 18th century the church was restored and two side chapels were added, including the chapel of St. Johannes Nepomuk . In 1936 a north aisle was added to the church.

The church building has been a listed building since 1955.

Architecture and equipment

View of the interior of the church

The church was built in the Gothic style.

The main altar was built in 1773, probably under the Moravian sculptor Johann Schubert. The altar has a group of figures with the Assumption of Mary , a representation of the Coronation of Mary and the Twelve Apostles. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary has four side altars, including a Marian altar and the Nepomuk altar. The former baptismal font in a cylindrical shape made of gray marble is now used as a holy water font. The holy water font dates from the 16th century and has a bas-relief of the evangelists. In the western country house chapel there is a life-size wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ.

There are numerous epitaphs in the church, including the semicircular epitaph by Paul Raschitz Koslowski from Koslaw auf Piechotitz and Jamka.
