Maria-Grüner-Ried

The Maria-Grüner Ried (also: Getzner Ried ) is a nature reserve in the municipality of Frastanz in Vorarlberg , Austria . To the north of the nature reserve is the Maria Grün settlement , which also gives the reserve its name.

In the area of the municipality of Frastanz there are a large number of such reed areas (e.g. in valleys: Weiher-Motten and the European protected area Frastanzer Ried and numerous other moors on the slopes).

history

The Maria-Grüner Ried has been used to obtain litter for centuries. It was reduced in size over time and the edge of the settlement moved closer and closer.

In 1990 the initiative Rettet das Maria-Grüner Ried was founded in order to prevent negative effects on the reed due to a further construction project in the outskirts of the Mariagrüner Ried. With the support of the public (3292 signatures) and / or the media , attention was drawn to the problem that parts of a high-quality flat moor and a sand hill with a significant glacial history should fall victim to a building project. The initiative was successful and the construction project in the moorland area was withdrawn, a large part of the building site was rededicated and compensated by the state of Vorarlberg (EUR 290,000) and the entire Maria-Grüner Ried was placed under protection as part of the rededication procedure and was in Vorarlberg for the first time the basin location of the fen, important buffer belt around the reed with restricted use and a ban on fertilizers.

Legal basis

The protected area Maria-Grüner Ried was placed under protection according to the ordinance of the Vorarlberg state government on the nature reserve "Maria-Grüner Ried" in Frastanz in 1994 on the basis of the Vorarlberg Nature Conservation Act and entered in the nature conservation book.

topography

The Maria-Grüner Ried is located in the municipality of Frastanz south of the Maria Grün settlement. It comprises the plots No. 2239, 2240/1, 2240/2 (partially), 2383 (partially), 2388 (partially) and 2389 (partially) in the cadastral municipality of Frastanz.

The entire protected area is at an altitude of about 542  m above sea level. A. up to 547  m above sea level A. , has a very slight gradient, a length of about 500 meters and a maximum width of about 160 meters (minimum width about 80 meters). In total an area of about 6.04 hectares. It is surrounded by other agricultural areas and settlement areas. The reed stretches in a slight curve from northeast to south.

The Weiherstraße leads through the southern end of the vineyard.

Protection purpose

The protective purpose of the establishment of the nature reserve is:

  1. To preserve the moor habitat in its entirety, the peat body and its water balance as well as the diverse flora and fauna from harmful influences, in particular also from nutrient inputs, and to maintain it through biotope-appropriate care in the form of traditional litter use,
  2. to protect the moor landscape with its special geomorphological characteristics through the level of the silting bog and the adjacent moraine walls, in particular the "Sandbühel", as a striking testimony to the Ice Age landscape formation in Vorarlberg and as a natural element in the settlement area of Frastanz from further disturbances due to changes in terrain and development.

Therefore, in connection with agricultural management, it is particularly forbidden to plow, graze, fertilize or treat with chemicals or to burn the ground cover in the nature reserve. This also applies to a three meter wide strip of land around the nature reserve. Also, no changes to the terrain may be made within 50 m of the nature reserve and - with exceptions - no structures may be erected and no construction work may be carried out within 100 m that would result in additional waste water, as long as it is not possible to connect to the waste water disposal system the community exists.

Flora and fauna

The Maria-Grüner Ried has very few trees and consists largely of plants that are cut once a year to obtain litter .

Waters

The Felsenautobelbach runs lengthways through the nature reserve from water kilometers (GwKm) 0.61 to 1.145. The Felsenautobelbach rises a few meters south of the protected reed on plot 2400/1 at GwKm 1.176 and flows into the Blödlebach, which comes from the Frastanzer reed and flows into the Ill .

Use and traffic

The Maria-Grüner Ried is an important local recreation area for the surrounding population and is still used for agriculture .

A public road runs through the reserve.
