Marie Louisen Source

The Maria-Louisen-Quelle is a brine spring in Bad Ischl in Upper Austria.

The source is located in the Steinbruch district to the west of the center, at the northern foot of the Kalvarienberg .

It supplies water that is around 10,000 years old and has a salinity of 24%. The primordial salt is already 250 million years old. The water comes to the surface of the earth by itself.

It is named after Marie-Louise of Austria , Napoleon's second wife and aunt of Emperor Franz Joseph . It was opened on August 24, 1840. The spring was already used for healing purposes for the imperial family, who often stayed here for summer holidays. After its productivity decreased more and more, it could not be used economically and was completely forgotten.

It was only rediscovered a few years ago because the snow did not remain at this point opposite the surroundings. The source was redesigned and reopened in 2007.

The water is to be used again on a smaller scale for medical purposes.
