Maria Gorumali Barreto

Maria Gorumali Barreto (born June 3, 1973 in Maliana , Bobonaro , Portuguese Timor ), Mery Barreto for short , is an East Timorese politician and women's rights activist. She is a member of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party and its women's organization OMP. She is a member of the party's finance and auditing committee.

Barreto has a degree in agriculture. She is the Advocacy Program Manager of the Alola Foundation and of Fokupers (communication forum for East Timorese women) , a non-governmental organization that works to empower women and their rights in East Timorese society. In 2004 she coordinated the Second Congress of East Timorese Women. Barreto is the national commissioner for children's rights and at Fokupers she is director of the board of directors.

At number 36 on the CNRT's list, Barreto failed in the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 because the party only won 22 seats. After the early dissolution of parliament in 2018, Barreto took up position 21 in the new elections on May 12 of the Aliança para Mudança e Progresso (AMP), to which the CNRT also belongs, and entered parliament. She is a member of the Parliamentary Commission on Education, Health, Social Security and Gender Equality (Commission F).
