The Maria Loretto Chapel , halfway between the city and Strasbourg Castle, is a branch of the Roman Catholic parish in Strasbourg and is now used as a funeral hall . The sacred building was built in 1315 by the Provost Johann Georg von Truttendorf and in 1650 under Bishop Franz von Lodron it was redesigned into a Maria Loretto Chapel. The chapel was originally intended as the bishop's burial place.

description

The chapel is a small, rectangular, barrel-vaulted hall with a straight end. There is an inscription and the Lodron coat of arms above the entrance . The two small towers have an onion crown. A barrel-vaulted sacristy adjoins the north side. From the north side a covered staircase leads to the west gallery, which is the same width as the chapel room. The basement was converted into the Annenkapelle in 1741. The altarpiece in the Annenkapelle shows the lessons of Mary .

The coat of arms grave plate of Canon Söll († 1741) is attached to the wall. The chapel also features a black Madonna .
