Mariano Arana

Mariano Arana (born March 6, 1933 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan architect and politician .

The descendant of Spanish immigrants, as the founder and chairman of the Vertiente Artiguista for the Frente Amplio, held a mandate as a senator from 1989 to 1994. He then worked from May 5, 1994 to March 1, 2005 as director of Montevideo . Immediately afterwards he took over the management of the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment from Saúl Irureta on March 1, 2005 until he was replaced by Carlos Colacce on March 3, 2008 . Since March 3, 2008 he is again serving as a senator in the Cámara de Senadores .

In 2015 he was elected as Edil in the Junta Departamental of Montevideo .
