Marie-Pierre Leray (born February 17, 1975 in Paris ) is a former French figure skater .

biography

Marie-Pierre Leray started figure skating at the age of nine. Her first major success was in 1993 when she won the French pair skating championship with her partner Frederic Lipka . After Lipka finished his career, she began her solo career and finished 14th in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . The following year she finished seventh at the 1995 World Figure Skating Championships in Birmingham, England. An operation forced her to interrupt her career. After resuming training, she qualified again for the World Cup, but then ended her active career because she had never really felt comfortable in the role of a single runner.

Still following pair skating, she contacted Nicolas Osseland in spring 2000 , with whom she had briefly trained for pair skating in 1995. She resumed training and began a pair skating career with Osseland, which saw several successes in 2001. After their separation in 2003, she worked as a single runner again, although her focus was no longer on the competition. In those years she presented shows that combined ice skating with graceful aerial acrobatics.

In the early years of her active ice skating career, the 1.68-meter-tall French woman also enchanted the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld , who had chosen her as the model for his collection, with her appearance and charisma .
