history

The Marienburg was named after Maria Magdalena, who had lived there since 1837 after the death of her husband, Franz Beissel von Gymnich. The Marienburg was built in 1783. The property was built as a rentier for Frens Castle and as a courthouse for the subordinates Ichendorf, Kenten and Quadrath. Franz Beissel von Gymnich donated the house to the mayor Johann Theodor Correns, bailiff and secretary of Frens Castle, in 1797. In 1834, however, it was bought back by the Beissel von Gymnich. In 1965 the Marienburg became the property of Rheinbraun AG. Today it is privately owned.

architecture

The Marienburg is a small, representative horseshoe complex with a so-called "courtyard" open to the street. The house is a two-story plastered brick building with a slate-covered mansard roof. The windows and doors have andesite reveals. The inscription "Extruebat habitaculum iudicii" (freely translated: built as a courthouse) refers to the function of the building.
