The Marienhütte was one of two ironworks in the local area of Eiserfeld in the Siegen district in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

In 1876 the "Marienhütte, Huthsteiner u. Cie, Eiserfeld “was founded. The hut with a blast furnace was one of the first foundries in Siegerland after the railway was built in 1862. Construction of the hut began in the same year. The blast furnace was 14 m high and built according to the Scottish system. A machine house and a boiler house as well as a coke shed and four roasting ovens were built. The license application dates from 1877; June 8, 1878 was specified as the acceptance date. A second blast furnace followed in 1882 using the same system. It was accepted on November 20 of the same year. Both blast furnaces together could produce up to 50 t per day. The mine employed up to 150 people. In 1888 the cable car was built over the 413  m high Rothenberg to the Gosenbacher Grube Storch & Schöneberg . Around 1900 the smelter with 55 employees produced approx. 30,000 tons of pig iron. In 1909 the first blast furnace was replaced by a new, 19 m high unit of the same design. In 1916 the second blast furnace was also replaced. The hut changed hands several times during these years; Westfälische Stahlwerke, Rombacher Hüttenwerke AG. Sometimes the hut was run under the name "Bismarckhütte". In 1925 the hut was closed due to the global economic crisis. The facilities were demolished in 1927 and 1928.
