Marienhof is a manor in the municipality of Spillern , 30 kilometers west of Vienna , not far from Kreuzenstein Castle .

history

The property was originally called "Josephinenhof" and was owned by the Baron von Rothschild . A two-storey castle-like building was built in 1856 and an “ English garden ” was created around it . In 1861 the "Josephinenhof" was bought by the Viennese engineer Franz Kreuter, who in 1886 sold it on to the kuk hussar lieutenant Alexander Prinz zu Solms-Brennerfels. In the same year the property passed to Maria and Georg Schröder, who on February 22, 1887 caused the renaming to "Marienhof". In 1895 the "Marienhof" was acquired by the Rittmeister Arthur Traenkel and his wife Theresia, which is why the hill above the main building is still called the "Traenkler Seat" today. In 1906 Theodor Prince Ypsilanti bought the Marienhof and turned it into a well-known stud farm. For training purposes, a 800-meter-long trotting track was even set up. In this condition, Paula Hilgenreiner, born in 1922, who was married to the kuk Rittmeister Eduard Staerz, took over. Suida, the "Marienhof". At the end of World War II, the main building was inhabited by the Soviet military and largely destroyed. In 1954 the manufacturer Gustav Harmer bought the property and renovated the main building. Today there is a stud again on the site.
