Architecture and history

"House at the trout pond"

"House at the Trout Pond" (2016)

The Art Nouveau villa "Haus am Forellenteich" was built in 1905/1906 according to plans by the Darmstadt architect Karl Klee (1871–1927) for the Darmstadt manufacturer Goebel. The representative house has belonged to the Marienhospital since 1930.

The architect Max Melsheimer added a bed wing to the villa in 1929 and converted the entire property into a hospital.

The property survived the Second World War almost unscathed.

The hospital has been an affiliated hospital since then . The maternity clinic is of particular importance.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, the Marienhospital has been renovated in accordance with historical monuments and significantly expanded with new buildings.

The beautiful construction details of the Art Nouveau villa include the richly decorated portal with name and canopy, the dome, the staircase, the elaborately forged window grilles , the gargoyles and the chapel inside.
