The Lady Chapel in Vild

The Marienkapelle in Vild stands at the beginning of the mule path over Matug into the Rhine valley. The chapel is classified as a cultural asset of regional importance and is therefore a listed building.

history

At the current location in front of the chapel there was a wayside shrine , which was first mentioned in 1484. In 1602, Christoffel Geel and his wife Anna Bantlin laid the foundation stone for a Marienkapelle. This chapel was consecrated on October 26, 1606 or December 26, 1606 by Bishop Johannes V. Flugi in honor of the Blessed Mother Mary . The chapel was expanded in 1628 and 1692. The old components were used as a choir. The original part from 1606 served as an open sacristy after 1624 . The walls were painted in 1624, although in 1946 only the image of the Annunciation could be sealed. The other two paintings on the long sides, which were described in the visitation regress of 1639/40, were no longer available.

In 1798 the chapel was devastated by the French and rebuilt in 1809. In 1945 the high altar was moved to the back wall. The chapel was renovated between 1975 and 1981 and the pre-1945 disposition was restored as far as possible.

The interior wall paintings date from 1628. Today's high altar was built in 1685. Two bells from the Wilhelminian era hang in the tower.
