Marienkirche

The Protestant St. Mary's Church is a listed sacred building in Aerzen ( Hameln-Pyrmont district ) in Lower Saxony .

history

The church is a single-nave hall structure made of quarry stone masonry , which is divided into three aisles by wooden pillars . It was built in 1643 after the fire in the previous building, a late Romanesque basilica. The northern cross arm with groin vault was included in the new building.

Little chronicle

1153

Consecration of a church with a cruciform floor plan in Romanesque design, which was consecrated to St. Peter, like all very old churches in the Weser region. The northern arm of the transept (towards the town hall) with its Romanesque vault has been preserved to this day and serves as a sacristy in the basement and as a community room for church cafes and smaller groups on the upper floor.

1642

Fire in the church, castle and 66 houses after the Weimar cavalry marched in during the Thirty Years' War.

1643

Reconstruction of the church by the church patron Börries v. Münchhausen in the form of a rectangular hall building. The pulpit and font in late Renaissance art forms are donated.

1662

Master Christoffel Kleimann in Lemgo casts three bronze bells for the Aerzen church. The middle one still exists today.

1686

Construction of the rulership speech (gallery) of the baronial family v. Münchhausen in the old arm of the transept with windows, crowns and passion paintings by the Rinteln university painter J. Woltemate.

1691

Foundation of the baroque altar. It was made in Italy from reddish and gray marble and alabaster and given to the community of Otto v. Munchausen for free.

1713

Building an organ. Its baroque prospectus is still available today.

1732

New construction of the church tower in baroque forms. The church was enlarged a little to the west.

1858

Shortening of the church tower after a lightning strike in 1853 and construction of the church tower roof in the form of a 'lantern' with a curved tip.

1951

Renovation of the church, with the lifting and closing of the v. Münchhausen'schen crypt under the chancel and reduction of the galleries.

1962

New construction of the organ with 22 registers on two manuals and pedal by Gebr. Hillebrand in the old case from 1713.

1973

Casting and suspension of three new bells in addition to the bell from 1662.

  • Priechen painting by J. Woltemate from 1686
  • Organ and pulpit from the 2nd half of the 17th century
