Marienklause Tangermünde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Maria zur Klause (also Klause Mariä ) was a small collegiate monastery near Tangermünde in the 15th and 16th centuries.

location

The Marienkapelle with the hermitage were on the banks of the Tangiers about two kilometers south of Tangermünde on what was then the Steindamm. Nothing remains of the buildings above ground today.

history

By the middle of the 14th century at the latest, there was a Lady Chapel with a miraculous image of the Virgin that attracted many pilgrims. In 1423, foundations for clergy were redefined from the rich income of Elector Friedrich I of Brandenburg . The construction of a stone bridge and the maintenance of the stone dam should also be financed from the income.

In 1459 a small pen ( hermitage ) was set up at the chapel. Soon after 1540 this was dissolved.

Remnants of buildings were still preserved in the 18th century, but no longer in the 19th century.
