Marienstift Naumburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The St. Marien Abbey was a collegiate monastery in Naumburg an der Saale in what is now Saxony-Anhalt from the 13th to the 16th century.

location

The monastery was probably located at the Marienkirche immediately south of the Naumburg Cathedral .

history

The early history of the pen is controversial in research.

In 1258, canons at the Marienkirche were first mentioned, without an exact structure and affiliation of the monastery being recognizable at that time. In 1343 it was formally subordinated to the cathedral chapter.

Canons were named for the last time in the middle of the 16th century.
