MTT turbine superbike
The MTT Turbine SUPERBIKE (also known under the unofficial name Y2K ) is a motorcycle with gas turbine drive from the manufacturer Marine Turbine Technologies (MTT) . It is currently the fastest production motorcycle with street legal approval . Five units have been built annually since 2000. The $ 175,000 price tag includes a lifetime turbine warranty .
general description
Christian Travert, a former racing driver and conversion specialist, was entrusted with the project management. The frame is made of aluminum profile and is significantly longer than usual; A telescopic fork springs at the front and a central spring strut at the rear . The machine is completely disguised and instead of conventional rear-view mirrors, a rear view camera and a small LCD television screen provide a view to the rear.
The drive
The drive consists of an Allison Model 250 Gas Turbine, in the helicopter of the type Bell 206 were used. The engines are replaced after a certain number of operating hours and continue to be used in other devices. MTT previously installed such engines in boats, vehicles or fire pumps until the President of MTT, Ted McIntyre, decided to also offer a motorcycle.
