The Lualualei naval radio station is a US Navy system for transmitting messages to submerged submarines with the help of longitudinal waves . The transmitting antenna consists of two 458 meter high guyed steel truss masts that were erected in 1972. These two transmission masts are by far the tallest structure in Hawaii and possibly the tallest transmission masts for longitudinal waves in the western world.
