Mario Oehme

Mario Oehme (born June 17, 1964 in Weimar ) is a German archer and three-time Paralympic participant.

biography

Born on June 17, 1964 in Weimar / Thuringia Sport has been a part of his whole life. As a teenager he first did athletics (high and long jump), vaulting, and later also dressage and show jumping in Mellingen .

During his apprenticeship at SDAG Wismut , he was active in shooting sports in the company sports group of the Beerwalde mining company with the free pistol and air pistol and the small bore rifle .

During this time he completed his training as a lifeguard .

After an accident at work, Oehme began with the SV Gera- Leumnitz in 1989 with the disabled sports in the sports of wheelchair athletics (shot put, discus and javelin), he played wheelchair basketball with the Weimar Lions until 1994 (Oberliga with the Weimar Lions until 1994). He also liked the racing wheelchair and so he drove short distances in the stadium up to the half marathon.

However, he gained fame as an archer. When he took part in the German championship for the first time, he finished 4th behind Udo Wolf , who was then the most successful German archer in disabled sports.

Oehme was accepted into the national team in October 1993. In 1996 he obtained a coaching license. He has been training mentally handicapped students (PARA-ID) at the Altenburg rainbow school since 2006. He was in charge of an archery group at the Dietrich Bonhoeffer regular school in Altenburg from 2011–2014. Since 2016, he has been training the students of the Gera Waldorf School, two of his protégés, whom he taught archery, with an instructor from his club. Bechstein School in Gotha.

At the 1996 Summer Paralympics he achieved gold in the team competition with Udo Wolf (Neuss) and Hermann Nordmann (Werlte) and the gold medal in the individual at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens.
