Mario Rizzetto

Mario Rizzetto (born June 4, 1945 in Padua ) is an Italian physician, professor of gastroenterology at the University of Turin .

In 1977, at the Mauriziano Umberto I Hospital in Turin, he discovered the hepatitis D virus in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

In 1985 he received the König Faisal Prize in Medicine with R. Palmer Beasley and in 1987 he received the Robert Koch Prize (half and the other half went to Rudolf Rott and John James Skehel ).
