Maritime competence center

The Maritime Competence Center (Mariko) is located in Leer on the site of the seafaring school and supports activities in the maritime industry.

history

Mariko was founded in 2010 to support shipping , maritime training and activities in the maritime industry. This also includes the initiation of research and cooperation projects for small and medium-sized companies in the inland navigation sector in Germany and the Netherlands, especially on the North Sea and the Ems . Courses ('Maritime Training') are held in the training center at the port of Leer .

Mariko's fields of activity

Mariko is involved in the following areas of inland navigation:

  • Initiation and management of innovative research and cooperation projects
  • Information and advice on current topics and funding prospects
  • Event management and advocacy
  • Project management and advice
  • Contact fair for ship owners and shipbuilders from the Ems axis with representatives of the German and Dutch maritime industry.
  • Foundation of the German Center for Innovative Inland Shipping D-ZIP

The D-ZIB is part of the 'European Inland Barging Innovation Platform' (EIBIP), this is an initiative of four project partners (Expertise- en InnovatieCentrum Binnenvaart (EICB), Pro Danube (innovation center “InDanube”), MARIKO GmbH (innovation center “D -ZIB ") and VNF (innovation center" Batelia ")).

The Mariko oversees various projects in maritime technologies such as E.g.

  • Reduction of emissions through hydrogen applications in the seaport of Emden
  • German-Dutch cooperation on the use of a CO 2 capture and storage system
  • MariGreen GreenShipping technologies & initiatives in the German-Dutch border area
  • successful & sustainable digitization of regional companies
  • Hydrogen applications in the seaport of Emden
  • Innovative ability & innovation activity in inland navigation
