Marius Ulfrstad

Marius Leonhard Moaritz Ulfrstad (born September 11, 1890 in Møre og Romsdal , † October 29, 1968 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian composer.

Ulfrstad passed the organist examination at the Conservatory in Kristiania in 1911 and studied in Berlin, Florence, Rome and Paris. He studied composition with Maurice Ravel and Ottorino Respighi . From 1918 to 1921 he was a répétiteur at the Opéra Comique in Kristiania. In 1919 he made his debut as a composer in a concert with the singer Elisabeth Munthe-Kaas and Erling Krogh .

In 1922 he was the founder of the Musikk-Akademiet , whose director he became, and the Unge Tonekunstneres Samfund . He was also co-founder and president of the Norwegian section of the International Society for New Music . He composed five symphonies, several piano and violin concertos, chamber music works, cantatas, choral works ( Arnljot Gelline , 1932), music for theater ( Munken Vendt , 1939) and more than 600 songs. In 1924 and 1928 he took part in the art competitions at the Olympic Games .
