Marjan is a peninsula on the western side of Split in Croatia . It is covered with a dense pine forest, which, however, was only replanted between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. For the most part, the Marjan is forested with the Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis). The highest point of the Marjan is called Telegrin ( 178  m. I. J. ), because there was a telegraph station there during the time of Napoleon . Since 1964 the Marjan has been placed under protection as a forest park with around 400 protected plants. From the Split-Spinut district an approximately 1 km long tunnel leads through the Marjan mountain to the south side of the peninsula in the Split-Meje district.
