Mother of good advice
Mother of good advice ( Latin Mater boni consilii ) is an invocation to Mary . Pope Leo XIII. with the decree Ex quo Beatissima Vergine (On the most blessed virgin) added the invocation "Mother of good advice" to the Lauretanian litany . Pius XII. subordinated his pontificate to the patronage of the mother of good advice and composed a prayer to her.
history
The veneration of Mary as the mother of good advice was particularly promoted and spread by the Augustinian hermits . A well-known Marian pilgrimage site under this patronage and cared for by the Augustinian hermits since 1356 is the sanctuary of Our Lady of Good Counsel in the Italian town of Genazzano in Latium . The pilgrimages to the medieval miraculous image there have been well documented since 1467. Several popes went to the place of pilgrimage and supported the pilgrimage there: Urban VIII on October 21, 1630, Pius IX. on August 15, 1864, John XXIII. on August 25, 1959 and John Paul II on April 23, 1993. A great patron of the shrine was Pope Leo XIII , who had the church decorated in 1902, visited the church on April 23, 1903 and obtained the Breve Sacris Aedibus raised to the minor basilica . On March 20, 2003, the pilgrimage to Genazzano was granted an indulgence privilege .
Adoration
In addition to numerous churches (see Maria-vom-Gute-Rat-Kirche ), several religious orders are subject to the patronage of the Mother of Good Council, including the Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver, the Sisters of Charity of St. Mary of the Good Council in Turin , the Sisters of Notre Dame of the Good Council of Chicoutimi in Canada as well as the Augustinian religious province in the American Midwest. In addition, under this invocation, Our Lady is the patron saint of the Mater Boni Consilii Institute in Verrua Savoia and the Canadian Association of Catholic Women.
1959 appointed Pope John XXIII. "The Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Mother of Good Counsel, who is popularly known as the Golden Madonna ", as the patroness of the newly founded Diocese of Essen . The figure of the Virgin of the Sedes sapientiae type , the oldest fully sculptural figure of the Virgin, is in the north side chapel of the Essen Cathedral .
