Mary titles are mainly used in the Roman Catholic Church to refer to Mary, the mother of Jesus . They originated in the popular piety of Marian veneration , are partly traced back to writings of the Church Fathers or Marian apparitions , some are also defined as dogma . Several titles are used in litanies such as the Lauretan Litany or the All Saints Litany . Some churches have patronage that is based on one of the Marian titles.
