Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant
The Church of Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant ( Hebrew כנסיית גבירתנו של ארון הברית, original French name: Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Arche-d'Alliance ) is a Roman Catholic monastery church in Abu Gosh in Israel . It is located in a north-westerly position on a hill at 756 altitude above sea level.
The church was founded in 1924 by the Sisters of St. Joseph built by the apparition . It was built on the foundations of a Byzantine church from the 5th century. The church tower is crowned by a statue of Mary, who is holding the baby Jesus in her arms. According to tradition, it is the place of the house of Abinadab where the Ark of the Covenant (ארון הברית) was kept before it was transferred to Jerusalem ( 1 Sam 7,1 EU ). Ark of the Covenant (Foederis Arca) is also a traditional typological title of Mary. The interior of the church is kept simple, the walls are painted white and there is a large cross in the apse.
About 400 meters to the east is a church that was built by the Crusaders in 1141, today's Church of the Resurrection .
The Abu Gosh Music Festival takes place twice a year in both churches.
