Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition

The sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition ( Latin : Institutum Sororum a S. Joseph ab Apparitione , order abbreviation SJA) are a religious community in the Roman Catholic Church . The apostolate of the sisters includes missionary work, community work, youth education and the care of the elderly and sick.

The congregation was founded in Gaillac, France, in 1832 by Sister Émilie de Vialar , who was canonized in 1951 . Sœur Émilie chose St. Joseph , to whom an angel revealed in a dream the mystery of God's incarnation ( Mt 1.20  EU ). The sisters now have homes in many countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. The line is in Paris . On December 31, 2005 there were 940 Sisters of St. Joseph in 154 communities.
