Creiddylad
Creiddylad [ krei'ðɘlad ] is the daughter of Lludd Llawereint in the Celtic mythology of Wales .
mythology
In the story of Culhwch ac Olwen ("The Story of Culhwch and Olwen") in Mabinogion , Creiddylad is engaged to Gwythyr fab Greidiawl , but shortly before the wedding she is kidnapped by Gwynn fab Nudd . King Arthur settles the dispute by stating that the two rivals would have to fight a duel on May 1st ( Beltaine ) from now until the Last Judgment . The final winner at the end of time would then get Creiddylad to wife.
Creiddylad is considered a model for the Cordelia in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae and thus also in William Shakespeare's King Lear . However, the plot in both cases is different from the Welsh legend.
