Marjata (ship, 1951)

The Marjata was Norway's first official reconnaissance ship .

The ship was laid down as a whaling ship in 1951 and delivered as Globe 14 to the shipping company Melsom & Melsom in Larvik . The ship was 51 meters long and 9 meters wide. The displacement was 691 tons.

The Norwegian Defense Research Institute bought the ship for NOK 300,000 and used it to monitor military activities in the Barents Sea from 1966 .

The fourth ship with the name Marjata and a similar mission has existed since 2016 .
