Mark Funkhouser

Mark Funkhouser (* 4. October 1949 in Paden City , Wetzel County , West Virginia ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party and former mayor of Kansas City , Missouri .

Funkhouser grew up in West Virginia . He attended Tennessee State University and the University of Missouri – Kansas City . In 1988 he became the city's auditor. In late 2006 he announced that he was running for mayor's office. He announced his candidacy in the Kansas City Star . During the election campaign, Funkhouser wore an orange tie as a tribute to its Ukrainian roots and the Orange Revolution . On March 27, 2007, he beat his opponent Alvin Brooks by just over 1000 votes.

His term of office began on May 1, 2007 and ended on May 2, 2011, after he had already failed in the primary when trying to re- elect . He was succeeded by the independent applicant Sly James .
