Mark Warschawskyi
Mark Markowytsch Warschawskyj ( Russian Марк Маркович Варшавский , Yiddish: מאַרק וואַרשאַווסקי; born 1848 in Odessa , Russian Empire ; died 1907 in Kiev , Russian Empire) was a Yiddish-speaking folk poet and composer.
Born in Odessa, he moved with his family to Zhytomyr (then in the Russian Empire, now in Ukraine ); in Zhytomyr he attended the four-year state rabbinical school. He then studied law for a year at the University of Odessa , graduated from the University of Kiev and worked as a lawyer in Kiev. He was a lawyer all his life and barely managed to make a living. In 1903 he moved to Belgium to work as a legal advisor for a company; when he fell ill in 1905, he returned to Kiev, where he died two years later.
