Mark Zbikowski

Mark "Zibo" Zbikowski (born March 21, 1956 in Detroit ) is an American software developer who has been with Microsoft for the longest time. During his work at Microsoft from 1981 to June 2006, he was involved in the development of MS-DOS , OS / 2 , the discontinued Cairo project and Windows NT .

He is the developer of the DOS executable file format. Its initials (MZ) are immortalized as the beginning of the file header in every MS-DOS , OS / 2 and Windows program ( EXE file ); if they are replaced by others, the program can no longer be run. He also made important contributions to the Installable File System (IFS) within OS / 2.
