Marking (computer science)
A marker is the highlighting of an area in the visual representation of computer data.
image editing
In image processing , a marking is usually a rectangular area that can be edited, copied or cut out independently of the rest of the image .
Some image processing programs allow:
- The selection of oval or free-form areas as well as the selection of an image area with a certain color .
- The manipulation of the marking by stretching, rotating or moving without changing the actual image.
- The "snapping" of the marking on an edge or surface in the picture.
Word processing
In word processing , a marking is a selection of consecutive characters in a text that can be copied or cut independently of the rest of the text. In a word processing program, in contrast to a text editor , the formatting and layout of the marked area can also be changed.
Some text editors or word processing programs allow:
- “Intelligent” markings, meaning that complete words are automatically marked or that leading and trailing spaces in a marking are ignored or adapted when copying or cutting.
- Selecting words, lines or paragraphs with the mouse by double or triple click .
- Selecting a rectangular area of characters.
