Marko Balabanov

Marko Dimitriev Balabanow (* 1837 in Klisura , † 1921 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian publicist, politician and philologist.

Together with Dragan Zankow , after the failure of the Bulgarian April uprising in 1876 , he traveled through several European capitals in the summer of 1876. They provided information and encouraged understanding for the situation of the Bulgarian people. For this purpose they wrote a memorandum. The outrage over the murder of 15,000 to 30,000 people ultimately led to the Russo-Ottoman War (1877–1878) .

Balabanov was Bulgaria's Foreign Minister in 1879 and from 1883 to 1884.
