A milestone in the citizens' struggle for independence

The landmark in the struggle of the citizens of Cologne for their independence is a memorial in Cologne commemorating the Battle of Worringen in 1288. It is located in the former schoolyard in Worringen , today's St.-Tönnis-Platz. It was created by the Worringer stonemason and sculptor Hilarius Schwarz from red Main sandstone . It was inaugurated on June 5, 1988.

The portraits show the "lion fighter" Hermann Grin , mayor of Cologne in 1262, as the legend reports, and the key to the city of Cologne. The inscription reads:
