The residential building with the address Markt 16 is a listed building in Teupitz , a town in the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .
location
The building is located a few meters from the city center on the northeast side of the historic city center. To the east of the building there are other listed buildings, including the Teupitz Castle , the Heilig-Geist-Kirche and the Teupitz Town Hall .
history
The building was built on the efforts of the merchant Wilhelm Marwitz (1830–1906), who opened the Marwitz restaurant there in 1874 . In addition to the guest room, there was a garden hall and a landing stage for boats, which enabled guests to travel across Lake Teupitz . In 1902 his son-in-law Hermann Lange took over the business; Then the half innkeeper Otto Schneider ran the house until it closed in 1922. Before that time, it was used for events by the Schützengilde, the Teupitzer Sängerkreis and the fruit and horticultural association. The first municipal bathing establishment opened on the bank of the inn in 1912. The Teupitz Workers 'and Soldiers' Council was founded in the garden hall on November 17, 1918 . After the building was closed, it stood empty for many decades. In 1997 a harbor café opened, which has been offering boat trips and boat rentals again since then.
architecture
The building was made of half-timbering that is plastered over the entire area . At the front there is a large shop window in the left area, which was closed in 2017. Next to it is a large entrance door, followed by another, much smaller door and two windows. On the upper floor of the two-story building are five smaller, rectangular windows. The house has a simple gable roof .
