The covered market is a Grade II listed indoor market in Salisbury , England .

In addition to the Market Walk shopping center, the hall also houses the Salisbury library.

It is located in the center of Salisbury, west of the city's market square at 1 Market Place . The Avon flows west of the market hall . The Market Walk leads through the southern part of the hall from the west bank of the Avon, across the river, through the hall to the market square.

Architecture and history

The hall was built in 1859 by a Mr. Strapp. Its plastered single-storey east facade is representative and provided with a cuboid . It rests on a high pedestal. There are three large, arched openings, the middle one having the greatest height and spanned by a triangular gable . A round clock is arranged in the center of the tympanum . The round arches are glazed in their upper part and flanked by pilasters on which the cornice rests. In the side arches there are cast-iron gates created by Hill & Smith of Brierley Hill . They are decorated with acanthus scrolls , among other things .
