Church from the northwest

The Marktkirche Bebertal is a St. Jacobi church . It was the church of the former district of Markt-Alvensleben and is the local church mainly used by four Protestant churches in Bebertal . It lies in the cemetery on a porphyry mound and forms an elongated rectangle.

Building history

The oldest part of the church is of Romanesque origin, the attached west tower is probably late Romanesque. After the Thirty Years War , a reconstruction was carried out until 1696, which roughly doubled it to the east. The upper baroque part of the tower probably dates from the same construction period. Only minor changes took place in the course of the 19th century. Most of the plaster on the ship has come off again.

tower

The approximately 14 m high tower with today's main entrance is listed as a western building . The ship and tower are not built as a bond, but the west wall of the tower is connected to the other sides of the tower. The clock and bell tower with baroque arched sound hatches is otherwise not used. An old opening to the roof structure has been broken through the Romanesque nave gable.

ship

The nave is built in the Romanesque and Baroque style, which can be seen from the windows on the south and north sides. Near the tower, a third window on the north wall was replaced by a door to the manorial chair (now walled up). Until 1685, a Romanesque arched door on the south wall near the tower formed the main entrance, which was walled up when a new south entrance was added to the choir annex with the baroque extension. This door was previously reserved for the clergyman. A separate entrance in the upper floor of the sacristy on the north side, presumably for the organist, is also walled up.

Interior

The church was extensively renovated in 1927 and 1980. The interior looks colorful. The walls are spike yellow, the verses of the Bible bolus red .
The electric wooden lighting fixtures date from 1927. In 1980 the sandstone and brick floor was replaced by red clinker tiles.
Two consecration crosses have been preserved under the third and fourth windows (from the east) on the south wall.
On the oil paintings on the gallery you can see Daniel in the lions' den, Jacob's ladder to heaven, the Good Samaritan, Mount of Olives, walk to Emmaus, Ascension of Christ and Pentecost. The paintings are simple works in bright colors.

Furnishing

altar

The altar consists of a brick block with a baroque stone slab and a 2.70 m high and 2.50 m wide wooden structure. However, this is no longer completely preserved. Made shortly before 1685, it contained gilded figures of Moses and John and a painting of Christ's baptism.
Today the altar consists of the predella with lateral cartilage and a representation of the Last Supper (oil on wood). A crucifixion image rich in figures in oil on wood (1.10 m high and 0.95 m wide) can be seen in the main part between the black Corinthian columns that were previously on the rotated columns. The people depicted have colors such as vermilion, olive green, and yellow-blue. The sky looks gloomy and is slate blue and yellow, the ground has a brownish color, the flesh has a yellow to a reddish brown. You can also see a vertical jump through the right side. A carved angel's head is located in the entablature above the painting, these have sides of the cheeks made of cartilage and crowned by fine-leaved acanthus tendrils that also shine in white and gold.

pulpit

The pulpit is located to the west of the south portal and has a height of about 5 m, the diameter of the basket is 1.50 m wide and carved from wood. The standing figures of the evangelists stand on plinths with their symbols, are approx. 0.60 m high, on the four sides of the basket in niches between the foliage volutes with fruit hangings. The wooden foot has an Arkanthus chalice with a figure of Moses, which is 0.90 m high and stands on a sandstone plinth. The stringer has carved fillings, these fillings consist of foliage and volutes like on a basket. The door is also provided with carved panels and a crown on the back. There is also the year 1698, as well as the words "Rüeffe getrost, schone nicht" written. On the back wall of the basket between carved acanthus vines is the figure of Salvator mundi in oil on wood. The sound cover, which is located above the pulpit, has six sides. On the globe above the pulpit there are volutes drilled through taut foliage and a blessing Jesus. All of these carvings are white and gold on a black background. In 1693 the carpenter M. Jordans built the pulpit for 16 Reichstaler . The pulpit is carried by a carved figure of Moses from which the root of Jesse grows. The pulpit lid is decorated with the dove of the Holy Spirit. Five epitaphs including four children's graves and a tomb of Anton von Randow.
