Marketplace 7 (Usingen)
The Marktplatz 7 building (also known as Kilb-Haus ) in Usingen is a listed building . It is part of the listed building group “Baroque New Town”.
The central building on the south side of the market square was built around 1700 at about the same time as the Huguenot church opposite and marked the start of construction work on the market square, the planned construction of which was initiated by Johann Emmerich Küntzel from 1700 on the basis of urban planning for the new town. Its construction date is surprising, which is not really in line with the "progressive" passive construction. The symmetrical eight-axis structure and the centrally aligned entrance of the stately building emphasize the decisive role in the longitudinal axis of the market square.
In the 19th century, the owner at the time, the district physician of the Usingen district , who had owned the building since 1869, had a colored frieze with entwined roses and leafy tendrils attached between the floors .
The building was last used as an inn and pizzeria. In connection with the development of the new market square, the city of Usingen acquired the long-vacant pizzeria from the owner's heir for 450,000 euros. The building was then sold to the project developer for the Neuer Marktplatz and bought back in early 2016.
The operators of the “Rote Mühle” inn near Bad Soden (see “Beidenauer Mühle” in the list of cultural monuments in Bad Soden am Taunus ) have now acquired the property in order to set up a restaurant with meeting rooms. The general renovation is currently being supervised by the Office for Architecture and Monument Preservation from Büdingen, which is initially trying to secure the building after the city has had the building secured. The stairs to the upper floor behind the central entrance door had been demolished by the previous owner and are to be rebuilt. The vaulted cellar is to be prepared and used as a jazz cellar. After the renovation is complete, the attic will serve as an office and social rooms.
