As an architectural icon, the Eiffel Tower served as inspiration for the construction of over 30 duplicates and similar towers around the world. A distinction must be made between replicas, which are mostly found in amusement parks or miniature worlds, and structural elements such as the 333 meter high Tokyo Tower .
The Eiffel Tower was an inspiration for the Blackpool Tower in England, which proved that a tower can be a profitable tourist attraction. The Blackpool Tower is not a replica of the Eiffel Tower and differs from the Paris Tower in many ways. At 158 m, it is only about half as high as the Eiffel Tower at 324 m. It is not free and its foundation is a building. It was designed by British architects Maxwell and Tuke like a series of towers including the New Brighton Tower .
Further replicas with the characteristic shape tapering upwards followed, especially in Europe until the beginning of the Second World War. It was only with the construction of the Stuttgart television tower , the first made of reinforced concrete, that the typification given by the Eiffel Tower was gradually abandoned and new forms were sought. As a replica in many amusement parks, it has seen renewed appreciation since the 1980s. The tallest replica to date with a scale of 1: 2, i.e. 165 meters, is located at the Paris Las Vegas hotel complex in Las Vegas and, like its French counterpart, houses a viewing platform and a restaurant.
