The transmitter Crystal Palace ( Crystal Palace Tower ) is a broadcasting facility of the BBC in the London borough of Bromley . The transmission tower of the same name , with a height of 219 meters, is currently the fifth tallest structure in the city. From the construction in 1956 to the completion of One Canada Square in the new economic district of Canary Wharf in 1991, the transmission tower was the tallest structure in London.

The Crystal Palace transmission tower is a free-standing, grounded, steel lattice tower not accessible to the public , which was built in 1950 and serves as a transmission tower for VHF , TV and medium wave . The antennas for VHF and TV are located on the top of the Crystal Palace Tower, which is also nicknamed the London Eiffel Tower . A long-wire antenna is used as the transmission antenna for medium waves , the top end of which is anchored to the tower and the bottom end to the ground.
