description

The animals reach a head trunk length of 9 to 10.6 cm and have a 12.5 to 13.2 cm long tail and reach a weight of about 24 g. Females are usually a little smaller. The fur is reddish-brown to dark gray-brownish-brown, darker on the back and somewhat lighter on the sides. The underside of the body from the chin to the groin and the inside of the front legs, sometimes the back legs, are whitish. The hair in the middle line of the abdomen is completely white, while the hair on the sides is gray. The front paws are light on top. The tail is slightly darker close to the body than at the end further away from the body.

Marmosops magdalenae differs from the very similar slender- pouch rat species Marmosops chucha , which occurs west of the Rio Magdalena , in the openings in the palatal bone , while they are absent or barely visible in Marmosops chucha .

habitat

Marmosops magdalenae occurs from lowland rainforests on the east bank of the Rio Magdalena to low mountain cloud forests at altitudes of 100 to 1940 meters.
