The Maroondah Reservoir is a small reservoir in the south of the Australian state of Victoria in the course of the Watts River , which is used for the drinking water supply of Melbourne .
The lake, about 50 km northeast of downtown Melbourne near Healesville , was created in the 1920s by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works and has a gravity wall made of concrete. The lake area is 2 km². Today it is operated by the successor organization Melbourne Water .
As with other reservoirs for the drinking water supply of Melbourne, the entire catchment area, which is completely in the Yarra Ranges National Park, is overgrown with eucalyptus forest and, like the lake itself, is completely closed to public use. Just below the dam is Maroondah Reservoir Park , an English style garden that contains many exotic plants that are very different from the surrounding vegetation.
A hiking trail leads over the flood relief of the dam up to a vantage point from which one can see the whole lake.
