Marquise-Thérèse de Gorle

Marquise-Thérèse de Gorle , better known as Mademoiselle Du Parc (* 1633 in Paris ; † December 11, 1668 there ) was a French actress.

Life

She was the daughter of the apparently Italian-born Giacomo de Gorle, began her career as an actress and dancer in a small hiking group in the provinces and then joined the larger and better-known Molières hiking group when they made a guest appearance in Lyon . In 1653 she married an actor of the company, René Berthelot , sieur Du Parc, better known as Gros-René, who specialized in servant roles.

Mademoiselle du Parc, as she was now called, was clearly an attractive woman. So she was z. B., when the troupe made a guest appearance in Rouen in the spring of 1658, adored with poems by the 52-year-old, already famous tragedy writer Pierre Corneille and his younger brother Thomas .

After the Molières troupe had settled in Paris at the end of 1658, the Corneilles managed to recruit the Du Parc couple for their home stage, the Paris Théâtre du Marais , but the two returned to Molière in 1660. Here the Du Parc shone not least in the ballet interludes with which Molière began to garnish his pieces.

By 1665 at the latest (her husband had died in 1664) she became involved with the young tragedy writer Jean Racine , from whom Molière had accepted and performed his first two pieces ( La Thébaide and Alexandre ) in 1664 and 65 . When Racine broke with Molière in late 1665 and turned to the rival troops of the Hôtel de Bourgogne , she followed her lover there. With her impressive portrayal of the heroine Andromaque , she was not uninvolved in the success of the play of the same name, with which he achieved his breakthrough in the winter of 1667/68.

Her sudden death under unexplained circumstances (presumably as a result of an abortion attempt) gave rise to speculation. In particular, Racine was suspected of poisoning her.
