Martin Bertolf

Martin Bertolf (* 14th century in Aachen ; † 1442 ibid) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the mayor Johann Bertolf and nephew of Heinrich Bertolf followed his father into the college of lay judges, where he was first mentioned as such in 1420. In 1432 and 1437 he was a member of the city council and was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1421 and 1437 .

Martin Bertolf was married to Odilie von der Heyden, with whom he had, among other things, the son and later mayor Johann Bertolf . Bertolf inherited larger lands in Hergenrath through his wife , whereupon his family line was also referred to as Bertolf von Hergenrath in some sources. As early as 1416, Martin Bertolf was involved in the foundation of an Anniversarium for the Carmelite monastery in Aachen.
