Johann Bertolf (* before 1462 in Aachen ; † May 12, 1510 ibid) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the mayor Martin Bertolf and Odilie von der Heyden followed his father into the college of lay judges, where he was first mentioned as such in 1462. In the years 1463, 1465, 1471, 1475, 1480, 1494, 1495, and 1499 Johann Bertolf was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen, whereby in 1495 he stood in as a stale mayor for an incumbent incumbent who was not known by name. As early as 1478 he was promoted to master lay judge and from 1488 he was employed as a provisional for several charitable institutions, for example the hospital on Radermarkt. In addition, Bertolf was sent several times for the city of Aachen as head of the delegation to important consultations, including 1495 to the Reichstag in Worms .

Johann Bertolf was married to Jutta Gerechte, called von der Wee, with whom he had no children. After her untimely death in 1474 he married Nese (Agnes) Polleyn von Kettenis, who brought the Belven estate into the marriage, which then remained in the family until the late 17th century. With her, Johann Bertolf had numerous descendants who, named after their ancestral seat, founded the noble family of Bertolf von Belven. Finally, Johann Bertolf was still married to Maria Wolff, the daughter of Mayor Peter Wolff , with whom he had two daughters.

Johann Bertolf inherited the lands near Hergenrath from his father , which is why he is also referred to in some lists as Johann Bertolf von Hergenrath. In 1462 he transferred the lands to his half-brother Jakob Bertolf. In addition, around 1476 Johann acquired the Waldenburghaus near Kettenis , which remained in the family until 1626, as well as the Libermé Palace .
